CITTA's Transversal Thematic Areas were created with the purpose to affirm the national and international role of CITTA and to attract (national and international) funding and qualified researchers to the research center;

Their organizational structure counterbalances the vertical logic (groups) with a horizontal logic, in view of the substantial growth of the center over the last decade.

Their aim is to contribute to the active collaboration of its members by providing frequent interactions, acting as facilitators of joint research activities.
