Formerly, Sílvia Sousa was a Researcher of the Department of Civil Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto (DEC-FEUP), in several capacities from MsC Research Fellow in Interreg Europe ATLANTE project to Contracted Researcher, funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).
Sílvia was appointed as Member of the Board (Executive Secretary) at CITTA, and an Invited Assistant Professor of Territorial Planning and Project at FEUP. She was a co-coordinator of the Portuguese team of the ERA-NET project 3S RECIPE Smart Shrinkage Solutions; and an active (Management Committee) member of COST Actions CA17125 Public Value Capture of Increasing Property Values (PUVACA) and TU0803 Cities Regrowing Smaller (CIRES) – Fostering Knowledge on Regeneration Strategies in Shrinking Cities across Europe. Through the years, she has been a member of the team of several national and international research projects; member of the team and project manager of several urban development and detailed local plans, urban regeneration projects, sector studies, urban design projects and urban architecture projects.

Research interests/skills: Climate adaptation and mitigation; energy, management of historic centres; urban resilience; smart shrinking solutions; evidence-based planning and urban policies; gentrification phenomena and overtourism; public value capture in shrinking cities and other shrinkage or non-growth contexts, child friendly cities, urban transitions.

Other relevant information: Founding Member of the Portuguese Association of Urbanists (APU); Member of the Shrinking Cities International Research Network (SCiRN).
