Maria Beirão is a civil engineer, with a master’s degree in urban planning, transport and communication routes from the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Coimbra. She is currently a PhD student in Transport Systems at FCTUC/CITTA. Her research, titled “Cycling Network Planning to Improve Urban Mobility”, is funded by FCT (UI/BD/154732/2023) and adopts an innovative and advanced approach to the planning of urban cycling infrastructure, employing artificial intelligence and open data sources from various domains.
