Mudassar Shafiq holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a master’s degree in Transportation Engineering from Pakistan. Currently, he is a PhD student in Transport Systems at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, and a member of CITTA. His doctoral research titled “Evaluation and Design of Accessible and Equitable Public Transport Networks” is funded by FCT. This research aims to calculate the current levels of access to public transport services by active and passive modes and evaluate the different dimensions of equity based on the measures of demand and needs derived from demographic and socioeconomic characteristics. Using the current inequity distribution, public transport network designs are proposed for maximized accessibility and achieving a balance between efficiency and social equity.
