4.16 - Pavement Energy Harvesting System to Convert Vehicles Kinetic Energy Into Electricity
Project Description
The increased mobilization of human being to cities and the adoption of new technologies has led to a great increase in the consumption of planet resources, with a special emphasis for electricity.
In the current paradigm, electricity production is done in large power plants, outside the cities, consuming non-renewable resources and inducing energy losses from the production to the final consumption. This paradigm must be changed, with the production being made from renewable resources, decentralized, near to where the energy is consumed, and preferably when energy is needed.
To meet the challenges stated before, this research project consists of developing a system to capture the energy released from vehicles to the road pavement and transform it into electrical energy, with the capacity to store it, in order to use it when necessary.
