4.27 - Incorporating Road Safety Concerns into Pavement Management

Project description

The main objective of this research project is the development of a new Decision-Aid Tool (DAT), which will permit the incorporation of road safety into pavement management.

The DAT must use Pavement Performance Prediction Models (PPPMs) to predict the future condition of the pavements, and Accident Prediction Models (APMs) to predict the number of accidents that will occur in the segments of the road network. The DAT must take into consideration parameters as the Present Serviceability Index (PSI), longitudinal roughness, rutting, skid resistance, etc. The DAT need to define the M&R interventions taking into consideration agency costs, user costs and the residual value of pavements.
